C-section was scheduled for April 15th, at noon (39 weeks). All childcare was arranged and we had time to finish laundry, etc. I still had 2 weeks. Imagine our surprise when Wednesday evening my water breaks. Mike was in Baltimore and it was too late for him to fly out that night. I found someone to come sit with the sleeping children and someone else to take me to the women's center. I was admitted and kept overnight then re-scheduled for a C-section the next morning. April fools day. Dylan arrived at 10:32am, April 1st weighing 8lb 5oz and 19 3/4" long. Thankfully dad made it home just in time! Everything went well and we were able to come home on Saturday.

Received the following e-mail from my mom today. She's in Haiti with a humanitarian group (Healing Hands for Haiti). She's gone several years but with the recent devastation this trip has been more difficult than previous ones.

"Spent today at CDTI one of the the only private hospitals left open at the time of the earthquake which has become a public facility. The patients are 6 to 8 patients per tent. In Haiti, a family member is expected to stay with the patient and provide primary care, the nurse does only nursing duties and has several patients (like three tents). It is hard to counsel as people's basic needs are still not being met. Most have no home to discharge to and there is NO extended care facilities or rehab units. One woman I visited with has no family, no home and was trapped in the rubble upside down for over 24 hours. Her left arm had to be amputated so it will be very difficult for her to work again. She has an eleven year old son and a four year old daughter who live with their father now in the country. She was never married to him and will likely never have her children again. She wants to die. Hope may be the greatest needed commodity in Haiti. People are very afraid of another quake, the rains and have little trust in the government. Everything I have learned about counseling has to be continually re-evaluated and adjusted. Until basic needs of safety, food and shelter are provided, it is difficult to work on their emotional needs. We hope it is hopeful to be able to tell their story as they do not feel they can express their loss with other Haitians because all Haitians are suffering. Many have expressed gratitude for having us listen to them, it just seems like so little. Visited with Jony last night, will be awhile before I can share any of that experience. The Haitian people have great faith and remain pleasant in unbelievable tragedy. Many have said " we smile but we do not feel it". The sadness is so evident in their eyes yet they remain so gracious. I truly love these people and am so grateful for this opportunity." ~Sandy

"Hope may be the greatest needed commodity in Haiti." I've thought a lot about that today. It's difficult to be hopeful in the midst of trial. I'm grateful for my faith and the understanding that I have. I've had an overwhelming feeling of gratitude today. I needed the reality check.

I'm behind! I get it. It's not like I've been vacationing for the last several months!

Baby Boy is arriving 4 weeks from today. We're excited and a tad apprehensive. That magic number 3 has always made me a little nervous and I'm trying not to let that get the best of me. If I'm honest, I'll admit that I'm more than apprehensive... I'm freaked out. Not to mention, the closer it gets the more vivid the memories of surgery, recovery, and sleepless nights become.

That all being said I can't wait to meet this little guy... who'll hopefully have a name very, very soon!

What we've been doing....

Our basement flooded in October. Not with the original flooding like many other families... we got a reprieve for a few weeks. Everything downstairs had to come upstairs so we were living in cramped quarters for a little while. We started to move everything back in November when it happened again. This time the roof in the office started leaking too.

We had a quiet Thanksgiving. Mike was out of town so we had a friend and her 2 little ones over for dinner. It was very casual and nice to relax. The new roof and basement repairs began the next week.

We got to go home to Utah for Christmas. We had a great time catching up with family and friends. Sebastian couldn't get enough of the snow. The highlight of his trip was tubing with dad. We built snowmen, jumped on the trampoline, and chased the dog.... all the things on his list. Mackenzie wasn't as big a fan. She was fine until the cold stuff actually touched skin and then she was done. We were sad to leave family and look forward to our next trip!

We came home to a freshly painted office, new carpet in the basement, and new skylights. I was so excited to move in downstairs again. Unfortunately, we flooded once again. On the up side, we hadn't moved everything back downstairs. The repairs took a little longer to complete this time. They finished last week.

I'm a planner. I like order. I thrive on order. So all this chaos has wreaked havoc on my soul. Five weeks away from my due date and nothing has been done. We couldn't even find the baby clothes.... let alone the car seat. Progress is being made and I couldn't be more relieved. We're still living in a mess... but it's the "can't get it all done in a day" kind of mess. Life is looking up! I've learned to lighten up. Since we've had no control over the timeline or decisions I've had to learn to relax. I've realized that life will go on and the house might get put together after baby comes home. We'll get there.... eventually!

Cook Book

A few weeks ago Sebastian came home with a recipe card that needed to be filled out with a favorite holiday recipe. We filled it out and sent it back to school excited to get the book for Christmas. He left his backpack at school yesterday so we brought it home last night after the Christmas program (which will get it's own post later). In the rush of getting every one in bed I didn't check his pack until this morning. I was excited to look through it but had to get to school and then help with his party this morning. Mrs. Amanda pulls me aside and asked if I had read Sebastian's entry in the cook book. During school they asked each child for a favorite dish and instructions; they then typed up what they said and included it in the recipe book. Of course now I'm dying because I never know what she's going to tell me when I pick him up. She hands me an extra copy and I read:

Student: Sebastian
Favorite food: Roast beef (news to me)
Instructions: Mix hot chicken, roast pickles and hot chocolate. Cook it for 10 minutes. You have to put it outside of your house to cool off. When you bring it inside you have to dust off the snow because we're humans and we don't eat snow.

Apparently the explanation continued but each child had a limited amount of space. At least I don't have to explain when we're in Utah that we don't eat snow because it's nasty... he's got that down!

#21: I had tickets to see Michael Jackson on September 21st in London, I was rather sad to hear that he had passed...luckily I have amazing family and friends who were there for me. My 4 year old nephew saw my belt buckle which is a picture of MJ and asked what happened to him, he then said said "I'm sorry you are sad, at least he is with Jesus now but I'm sorry for your loss" yes my 4 year old nephew speaks like that...he is adorable

Kenz was running through the house and caught the corner of an open chest of drawers with her noggin. The scream ended quickly... almost as quickly as the swelling began. I didn't realize a bump could swell so much and so rapidly. Maybe she has a little of her Uncle Matt (aka Wolverine) in her. The human body is an amazing thing!

We hadn't planned on lil' man going to school this year. So when they called a couple of weeks ago and said he'd cleared the wait list we decided to try it and see how it went. Apparently, he's much more prepared than we are! He loves his teacher and couldn't be more excited to go.

This looks staged, I know. He was trying to climb the tree but his new shoes got stuck.

There was a short pause at the door but as soon as he saw the race track he was on his way.

Pumpkin just wanted to know "where bashion go?". He wasn't in Wal-mart or at the house and he definitely wasn't in his car seat (we checked!).

OK, so It's only pre-k. In my mind he's starting his senior year! I can't believe how quickly 4 years have gone. We're so proud of you buddy. You make us laugh each day and bring such joy to our home. We love you!

I'm on the phone with a friend this afternoon and Mike puts Kenzie down for her nap. Not even 90 seconds later shes behind me. Can't figure out what's going so I take her back to her room and put her in the crib. 2 minutes later she's back... so I wonder in and ask Mike why he keeps getting her up. He doesn't have a clue what I'm talking about. At that moment I think... "no, surely not". Oh yes! Yes she can climb out of her crib.

Third time's a charm and she stays put and takes her nap. We go to a birthday party, have dinner, watch a show and get ready for bed. I lay her down and a minute later hear her little feet on the wood floors. This kid is killing me! She has always been such a heavenly sleeper. Put her in her bed and she goes to sleep. Very little crying involved... ever. This has put a whole new spin on things for us.

Per Mike's request I pulled out the camera to catch her in the act. Now I know this video looks a little rehearsed but it's honestly the first time we had the privilege to view her acrobatics. Love the end.... from both our kiddos!!

I had a friend tell me today that she doesn't need any of this blogging non-sense because her friends already know her day to day activities. I'd like to think that I have friends out there that I don't speak with everyday but still check in every once in a while to see what we're up to. Possibly see if my kids are still so stinkin' cute they can't stand it... maybe??

Regardless, this post is for her. Hoping I get busted and she calls me out. Sure, she knows the daily mess our life sometimes becomes but I blog to document all the ridiculous things my children say. To share the things that sometimes I'm just not brave enough to share. And because I've gotten awfully lazy in my scrapbook attempts.

So, lil'man the other day asks if I will go to the booger store and get him some boogers for his nose that aren't sticky. My first first reaction is to ask why after many, many requests he still touches boogers with his fingers! I realize this is futile so I quickly move onto the next question which is "what store do you think sells boogers?". His answer is quite matter of fact: "at the comfort store on Mableton parkway". (To my knowledge this is not an actual store)

Last week this child wished for a chocolate factory and if he couldn't have one could he at least have a Charley and the Chocolate Factory birthday. Apparently we need to work on distinguishing between reality and make believe.

Then again, wish on lil'man! Wish on!!

"cause it's filthy (pronounced filfee). those fishes licked it with their dirty tongues and now mommy has to wash it."

The real truth? The boat has been sitting in the driveway all winter long and is filthy from the elements. Oh sure, it needs a good bath but not because of dirty tongued fishes!

I love this picture! My little girls cheeks are so kissable! She's lost some of the chunk and I still kiss her all day long. And that smile! Her brother is pulling a face... how odd! ;-) We took several pictures trying to get both to smile so we could send them to daddy who was in Atlanta working. Whenever I start to feel homesick I remember how rough it was when Mike was commuting and somehow my mood improves. We miss our family and friends but love that we get to have dad home for dinner!

I had a wonderful birthday. I'm so grateful for wonderful family and friends that let me know they were thinking of me. My amazing mom came into town to watch the lil' ones while Mike and I went away for the night. We are so glad she came to play with us and the kiddos had a great time with Grandma!

Mike and I went to Helen (small German town in north Georgia) and had a good time. Mike also made my favorite chocolate cake. It's been a great weekend!

Sebastian didn't want to take his picture with me! So, not only does he wipe off my kisses but now he won't take a picture with me? Seriously! I think it had less to do with me and more to do with the camera. I hope!! ;-)

Kenzie, on the other hand, started saying cheese before dad could grab the camera! Love these kids!!

After 4 times of wearing their costumes we finally got pictures! Buzz and Boo (Monsters, Inc.) had a good Halloween season filled with trick-or-treating, parties, and a trunk-or-treat/fall festival.

Boo started out with a clean shirt, pigtails and Mike Wazowski (we don't have a Sully). We ended the day looking like this:

Of course this is after the Smyrna City Boo Festival (1 hot dog and chips), dads office (candy, cookies and fruit punch), and a quick trip to Ikea for shelving (noodles with meatballs and sauce). And she's still the most beautiful baby girl we know!

Buzz finally agreed to pose with his wings on if I let him take his picture with Mickey. It took me a few minutes to understand what he was asking for.... how could I forget the wonderful pumpkin dad carved?

Moline

I mentioned to a friend we were going to Moline and she said "they have a really nice airport". Seemed a little random at the time but upon arrival I can attest that they do indeed have a nice little airport.

We checked into the hotel then took the tour of Mike's old stomping ground. I was a tad nervous about the trip to the farm. He hadn't been back since his Grandparents sold it so I wasn't sure if it would hard for him. The family that resides there has done a great job of making it their own. They have cleared away several acres and added onto the house. I think it was easier on Mike to have the property look so different. He was amazed that the road to the farm had been paved. Apparently that was a big deal because he mentioned 12-13 times.

We went to the put in (that's for you Babe) and Mike explained where he sank the boat. Considering how cool it was that day I can only imagine how cold it was on said occasion. You'll have to ask him to tell the story- since I wasn't there.

We went to Brian and Peggy's where they welcomed us with open arms and presents for our children. We all enjoyed the visit, it was a much needed get away. Did I mention the hacienda? The original McClellan home is now quite colorful (purple, yellow, blue, pink, green, red- all on the outside of the house). My only regret that weekend is we didn't take a picture!

Now onto the good stuff..... dessert then the rest of the day...

One word: Whitey's. If you're ever in the are make sure to stop for ice cream. Notice Sebastian took his cup to a chair away from the crowd so he didn't have to share. That's my boy!

Kenzie quickly stole Mike's milkshake. He got to enjoy some of it... and some of his ice-cream on the flight home. What a good dad to share with the lil' ones.

Mackenzie with a full belly of Happy Joe's pizza. Mike has fond memories of Taco pizza. It's mostly the taco sauce he loves which they now bottle so it was easier to bring home than the 50 packets we took last time.

After visiting the farm we went out to Brian and Peggy's house. We all headed back to the hotel to let the kids swim before pizza and ice cream. We had a good time catching up with their family.

The leaves are still falling down.... but Mike is glad he no longer rakes them!

Our children are blessed to have wonderful extended family who spoil them. Sebastian was excited this morning to hear a knock at the door and even more excited to find a package from Grandma and Papa Moody. Thanks for all the halloween goodies! We love you!

He was too shy to meet him the first time we waited in line. After several requests to meet Buzz mom stood in line once again, nervous she would be meeting Buzz for the 2nd time. Isn't that the best smile you've ever seen? This little girl makes my day. She is so happy to be alive. She loves the water and would have been in the ocean had we let go of her! We love you Kenzie.

I'd say for a first birthday we did ok. We started the day with Animal Kingdom, followed by dinner at Dixie Crossroads. Next off to the beach and then back to the condo for cake. What a day!

Oh, the lazy days of summer! We went to the Cartersville KOA for Labor Day weekend and had a great time. We can't get Kenzie out of the water when we're at the lake. In fact, she is usually bouncing up and down in her seat until we anchor and let her swim. Bastian finally warmed up this trip and took his usual spot on the ladder. Kenzie loves to ride the tube with Daddy!

We had Sebastian's birthday party at Grandma and Papa's this year. He wanted a Wall-e birthday party. He loved his remote control car and Wall-e robot! He couldn't wait to get it out of the box. He has enjoyed his other presents too. He liked his baseball until he dropped the ball and it rolled into a beehive. "They aren't nice bees, like the ones on the bee movie. They aren't sweet at all!" Thankfully, he's not allergic to bee stings and he was only stung 3 times!

It's never been easy to get Sebastian to smile for the camera. My directions are always the same- if you get him to look at you and sit the way you want, snap the picture! Smiles are rare; can't imagine where he gets that! So it's always fun to see if the pictures are going to be sweet smiles or attitude. He was so upset that he had to wear a tie and button his top shirt button. The only reason he is sitting in the picture is because we let him hold the fishing pole. Mackenzie is all smiles, all the time! What a sweetheart.

We spent Thanksgiving in Texas with Mama (Lisa's grandma). We drove our RV from Utah to West Texas and actually enjoyed the drive. It was nice to have the time to be together without much interruption. Grandma, Papa, and Aunt L'Jean flew from SLC to be there too. Sebastian loved walking the railroad tracks across the street from Mama's. Papa seemed to enjoy it too!

Bastian gets a haircut!

Not his first trim (had to clean up those curls a time or two) but his first actual haircut. It was a sad moment because he went from baby to big boy in about 10 minutes. Sad how quickly the time passes. He sat quite still after being bribed with the squirt bottle. Of course the rest of us were soaked but his hair looked great. Thanks Aunt L'Jean!

Mike has been elected to be the President of the National Pilot's Association (the union for AirTran pilots). We have decided to move back to Georgia since the job requires him to be in the office Monday thru Friday. We are excited about to be close to friends again but sad to leave family behind.
